Franchise SBA default-rate reports

SBA 7(a) loan default data, FY2010–FY2019 · Updated 2026

8 data reports rank the 415 franchise brands on this site by SBA 7(a) default rate, loan volume, loan size, approval year, industry, and early charge-offs since 2020, all computed from U.S. Small Business Administration loan records for the matured FY2010–FY2019 cohort with statuses as of June 30, 2026. Every report has a downloadable CSV.

Most SBA default figures published online use loans approved since 2020 — loans that have had six years or less to fail — so those rates are floors, not outcomes. Every rate on this site is computed from the matured FY2010–FY2019 cohort: loans that have been paid in full or charged off, so the result is settled. Loans approved since 2020 are shown as counts so early charge-offs are visible without being mistaken for a rate.

Where should I start?

Start with the pillar report if you want the whole picture on one page. It covers the distribution of brand-level rates, the 50 highest and lowest brands, and breakdowns by approval year, industry, and loan size. Come to the single reports below when you need one of those cuts in full.

Which reports are available?

Each report is built from the same federal data as the brand pages. Each carries its own table, FAQ, and citation, and each can be downloaded as a CSV. All rebuild with every SBA data release.
